The Big Pedal 2016
On the first day back after the Easter holiday there was a special assembly for the whole school led by Mrs Rooke. She explained the importance of The Big Pedal and the way it was recorded. We learnt we could win prizes. Eco reps made posters that went around the school and Eco reps told their classes about the event.
On the Friday before we started we took scooters and bikes into assembly to remind kids.
Eco reps went out early on the first day and welcomed riders and gave out stickers. We needed to organise a new bike store and direct children.
On the first day there were lots of riders but this grew each day. We were really pleased to be in the top 30 in the country throughout the first week.
Parents commented that there was less traffic in the area and fewer parked cars. This is great because it means less pollution, less accidents and more clean air. It is much healthier too!
We all tried our best to remember to keep riding our bikes and scooters. We looked on the website and at the end of week 1 we were third in the South East of England!
By the end of The Big Pedal we came 63rd in the country, out of more than 1,000 schools and 5th in the South East of England! We were very proud of this. We have also noticed that more people are continuing to scoot or ride to school- our bike shed is very full!
These were the overall class results…….
1st Mrs Witney’s class Year 3
2nd Miss Kensit’s class Year 2
3rd Mr Oyston’s classs Year 3
Well done everyone!! Keep pedalling!
