In September 2020, all our children returned to school following the Covid-19 closure in March. Plans have been put into place to ensure that should an individual child need to self-isolate for a period of time, or a bubble or whole school closure be unavoidable, remote learning will allow children to continue with their education. This meets the expectations set out in the DfE guidance.
If a child does not have access to a computer/laptop and/or the internet, the school will do all it can to support them, either through providing a device or paper packs of work. Every effort will be made to close the digital divide for our families. Parents will be encouraged to approach school to make them aware of any barriers they may be experiencing.
For children in Years 2 – 6, TEAMs will be used to deliver a daily live session in the morning. These are scheduled to enable any child within the household to access this event. Maths and English lessons are pre-recorded, with provision for afternoon sessions.
Children in Foundation and Year 1 will receive their remote learning via Tapestry as this platform is already familiar to them.
Teachers will be used across the school to support in the remote learning for those children at home, or to support those vulnerable or key worker children in school.

Charlton Primary School’s Planned Catch-up Approach
When the children started the new school year in September, many were returning to the classroom for the first time in almost six months. Many children have been able to keep learning while staying at home. However, we know that children have not been able to learn in the same way as they would have in school and the consequences of the pandemic will have impacted on all children (but particularly for those from socially disadvantaged families).
Closing the learning and emotional gap will take time and require a sustained response. As such, at Charlton the ‘recovery curriculum’ will be a clear priority. This strategy aims to provide a summary of the additional support and resources that we intend to implement, in order to close gaps created by the wider Covid-19 response and school closure.
